Instagram: Soldiers Tower :: January 4, 2016
Looking up at the south side of Soldiers Tower at the U. of T. It was designed by the architects Henry Sproatt and Ernest Ross Rolph. The cornerstone was laid in 1919 and the tower was finished in 1924. In 1927 the clock and the 23 bell carillon were installed. An additional 28 bells were added in 1976, and it is the only Canadian University to have a functioning carillon.
The stained glass window includes scenes inspired by John McCrae's poem "In Flanders Fields" as well as men and women of the armed forces serving during wartime.
